Elizabeth Corfe - Visual Artist
To me creativity is an essential part of living. It spirits me away from the cares of the world, and becomes as necessary as breathing. It gives sustenance to the soul and harmony to my vision of everyday life – the colour, the shapes, the balance, and of how it all fits together. The pure thrill of the moment when line and colour erupt into something engaging and unforeseen is the drug that leads me on.
To be able to attempt to re-create some of those aspects with paint or pencil is a totally absorbing and continuing journey. Often the aim to precisely re-create visual objects or settings is the goal - a mesmerising occupation in seeing and putting down a line or a succession of colours, which subsequently brings life to the paper or canvas.
Sometimes the simple balance of colours, intensity and shapes is pleasing enough on its own in an abstract way; or suggested imagery gives a whimsical outlook or design; or the emotion of strong feelings finds an outlet for expression.

AustralianaThe Australian Outback has been my working life, and the core of my spirit since childhood. An overwhelming need to portray it sparked my return to art several years ago.

Abstract
Working in abstract forms of art is relaxation for me - playing with different surfaces, paints, mediums, materials, unusual tools and whatever comes to hand, trying to achieve a balance of shapes, colour and composition.

Realism
Drawing has always been my first love. Sometimes there are images in the mind you just HAVE to portray, but getting it 'right' can be very challenging, and hard work.
